The poster was designed for Arabia's Amsterdam exhibition in 1950. The lithograph was made from a drawing by Tapio Wirkkala directly on a stone slab, and was used for several years as a promotional poster for Arabia. This version was printed in 2015 and it measures 62 x 100 cm.
Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was one of Finland’s most influential designers, renowned for his extraordinary versatility across glass, ceramics, wood, and metal. A leading figure in post-war Scandinavian design, Wirkkala was celebrated for his ability to merge refined craftsmanship with functional beauty.
Best known for his glass creations for Iittala, his work also includes iconic pieces in silver for Kultakeskus, porcelain for Rosenthal, and sculptural wood designs. Drawing inspiration from nature and the Finnish landscape, Wirkkala’s designs are timeless, elegant, and highly sought after by collectors worldwide for their artistry and enduring appeal.
