Ulla Winblad (1933–1992) was a Swedish ceramic artist and designer celebrated for her charming, hand-decorated wall plaques, vases, and tableware. Beginning her training in Gantofta and later at the School of Arts and Crafts in Gothenburg, she became the artistic leader at Alingsås Keramik from 1958 to 1966, where she led a team of artisans in crafting modernist stoneware pieces in chamotte clay.
Her works—often featuring stylized animal motifs in warm, earthy glazes—combine playful expression with Scandinavian simplicity. Following her departure from Alingsås, she moved to the United States and established her own ceramic studio in Seattle. Her artistry received royal attention in 1982 when King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia acquired her dinnerware, and her creations were later acquired by the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture for permanent display.
Winblad’s ceramics are prized today for their blend of folk-inspired charm, artistic freedom, and timeless modernist elegance.
