Kari Huhtamo (1943–2023) was a Finnish sculptor born in Rovaniemi. He studied at the School of Industrial Art and the Finnish Art Academy from 1961 to 1964 and lived in Helsinki from that time onward.
While best known for his sculptures—especially in acid-proof stainless steel—Huhtamo also created lithographs, textiles, medals, and portraits. Early in his career, he worked with wood, concrete, and recycled materials, later shifting to metals and plastics.
His first major public work was the Monument to the Reconstruction of Lapland (1969) in Rovaniemi. From the 1970s on, he produced numerous public sculptures and won several awards.
Huhtamo’s work has been exhibited internationally, including in Estonia, South Korea, and the Netherlands. In 2009, he became the first Finnish sculptor to hold a solo exhibition at Moscow’s Tretyakov Gallery. A year later, he was the first to exhibit at Kultaranta, the Finnish President’s summer residence.
