Yki Nummi (1925–1984) was a pioneering Finnish designer whose work in the 1950s and 1960s helped define the look of modern Scandinavian interiors, mostly with work within lamps. As chief designer for Finnish manufacturer Orno from 1950 to 1975, he created over 200 lighting models, blending clean, functional forms with a poetic sense of light and atmosphere.

Nummi is best known for his timeless designs such as the Modern Art table lamp and the Lokki pendant—often called “The Flying Saucer”—which remain in production and beloved for their soft, diffused light. His work exemplifies the Nordic approach to design: practical, human-centered, and aesthetically enduring. Today, vintage Yki Nummis design are highly sought after for both their design heritage and their ability to bring warmth and elegance to contemporary spaces.
