A rare, large 35 cm hand-thrown ceramic dish designed by Peter Winquist for Arabia in the 1960s. With its organic form, earthy glaze, and subtle spiral grooves, this piece captures the timeless elegance of mid-century Nordic ceramics. Both sculptural and functional, it stands as a beautiful example of Arabia’s artisanal era.

Peter Winquist (b. 1941)
Peter Winquist is a Finnish ceramist and designer known for his modern yet functional approach to everyday objects. Educated in industrial design in Gothenburg, he worked for Rörstrand in Sweden before joining Arabia in Helsinki in 1967. During his years at Arabia, Winquist developed several iconic tableware designs, including the award-winning Faenza series, celebrated for its refined simplicity and practical elegance.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Winquist served as artistic director at Pentik and later as rector of the Finnish Ceramic School in Posio. Since 1988, he has been based on Åland, where he continues to create ceramics that bridge design and sculpture, often inspired by Nordic nature and folk traditions. His works are represented in several public collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
