Table lamp produced by Uno and Östen Kristiansson for Luxus in Vittsjö during the 1960s. Textile produced by Marjetta Metsovaara.

Uno Kristiansson (1925–2001) and Östen Kristiansson (1927–2003) were Swedish brothers whose designs from the 1950s to the 1970s epitomize the elegance and functionality of Scandinavian modernism. Working both individually and together, they created lighting, mirrors, and furniture that combined simple, organic forms with high-quality natural materials such as teak, glass, and leather.

Uno is particularly known for his innovative lighting designs for Luxus in Vittsjö, featuring clean lines and warm, diffused light, while Östen’s work includes refined wooden furniture and mirrors for manufacturers like Vittsjö Möbelfabrik. Their pieces are celebrated for their craftsmanship, understated beauty, and enduring appeal, and they remain highly sought after on the vintage design market.

Marjatta Metsovaara (1927–2014) was a pioneering Finnish textile artist and designer celebrated for her bold use of color, pattern, and texture. Active from the 1950s onward, she brought a modern, expressive style to woven and printed fabrics, often blending traditional Finnish craft techniques with contemporary design sensibilities.

Her work ranged from richly textured upholstery fabrics to vibrant printed textiles, many of which were exported internationally and embraced by leading interior designers of the era. Metsovaara’s designs are recognized for their artistic freedom, innovative material combinations, and enduring quality, making them highly collectible among lovers of mid-century and Scandinavian design.
