Rare 1934 Chicago World's Fair Cocktail Shaker by A.P. Company
Celebrate the spirit of innovation and glamour from the 1934 Chicago World's Fair with this striking vintage aluminum cocktail shaker. Measuring approximately 27 cm tall and 10 cm in diameter at the tapered top, this shaker is a rare collector’s item from the post-Prohibition era.
Decorated with 14 classic cocktail recipes—including the dry martini, sidecar, Manhattan, old fashioned, and orange blossom—the shaker is both a stylish bar accessory and a piece of American history. Around the top edge, finely etched illustrations depict three iconic fair buildings: the Walgreen Building, the Hall of Science, and the Federal Building.
Made by A.P. Co. of LaGrange, Illinois (stamped on the base), the shaker retains a beautiful aluminum luster with well-preserved black accents. It shows light wear from age—minor surface scuffs and a small 0.6 cm dent—but remains clean, functional, and display-worthy.
The 1934 Chicago World's Fair, officially known as *A Century of Progress International Exposition*, celebrated the city’s centennial and ran from May 1933 to October 1934. Held along the lakefront, it showcased innovations in science, technology, and architecture, offering a bold vision of the future during the depths of the Great Depression. Highlights included futuristic buildings, early television demonstrations, and the arrival of the German airship *Graf Zeppelin*. The fair embraced modernism and optimism, leaving a lasting cultural legacy and reestablishing Chicago as a center of progress and design.
