Kalevala Koru collaborated with the Savonlinna Opera Festival to create a series of opera-themed jewellery between 2003 and 2007. Ratsumies/The Horseman, designed by Kirsti Doukas, was the third piece in the series. The series, which was presented in the summer of 2005, is inspired by Aulis Sällä's opera of the same name and by the world of equestrian sports.

Kirsti Doukas (b. 1964) is a renowned Finnish jewelry designer and former Head of Design at Kalevala Jewelry. She holds degrees in goldsmithing and design from the Lahti Institute of Design and Aalto University.
