Karl-Erik Ekselius (1914–1998) was a notable Swedish furniture designer whose refined creations helped define mid-century Scandinavian modernism. Trained in carpentry in Germany and later at Carl Malmsten’s School for Furniture in Stockholm, Ekselius brought craftsmanship and clarity of form to his work.

For many years, he designed for J.O. Carlsson Mobler in Vetlanda—often abbreviated as JOC—and eventually took over the company in 1961. His versatile portfolio includes dining tables, sideboards, coffee tables, chairs, and lounge armchairs, all conceived to fit seamlessly into both home and work environments. He favored richly grained woods such as teak and rosewood, and enhanced them with details in brushed aluminium, chrome, and supple leather.

Ekselius gained international recognition at the Helsingborg Exhibition (H55) in 1955 and later contributed furniture to prestigious locations, including the Dag Hammarskjöld Library at the United Nations headquarters in New York. While his elegant ‘Fåtölj’ armchair holds a permanent place in the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm, other hallmark designs such as the "Mondo" lounge chair and the "Krysset" coffee table exemplify his enduring appeal.

Today, his designs, especially those produced by JOC, are cherished by collectors and design enthusiasts for their timeless balance of functional modernism, fine craftsmanship, and understated sophistication.
