A rare and collectible example of Italian modernist office design — the Rexite Cribbio, model 1000/1010, designed in 1981 by the acclaimed duo Raul Barbieri and Giorgio Marianelli.

The Cribbio is one of the quiet icons of post-war Italian industrial design. An essential, seamless object made from a single deep-drawn and radially perforated sheet of steel — no joints, no welding — it achieves a structural integrity and visual lightness that remains unmatched. Since its introduction in 1981, the Cribbio collection has furnished offices and contract environments across the world with understated, enduring style.

This particular example is a corporate promotional edition produced for IVECO — the Italian commercial vehicle manufacturer — marked in white repeat print around the upper rim. An authentic period artefact: the kind of object made when brands still commissioned serious designers to represent them.

Marked on the base: Rexite / Cribbio 1000–1010 / design Raul Barbieri e Giorgio Marianelli / mod dep US des pat pending / Made in Italy — indicating early production, prior to US design patent approval.

Functions equally well as a wastepaper basket (model 1000) or umbrella stand (model 1010). Finished in gloss black. Heavy, solid, and built to last decades — as proven.
Condition: Vintage. Surface scratches and marks consistent with age and use. Structurally excellent.

About the Designers

Raul Barbieri and Giorgio Marianelli formed one of the most productive design partnerships in Italian industrial design. Working together from the 1970s onward, the Milan-based duo built a reputation for objects that married rigorous engineering logic with clean, restrained aesthetics — always in service of function. Their work for Rexite, including the Cribbio collection, exemplifies this approach: objects with no superfluous detail, where the manufacturing process itself becomes the visual language. Barbieri and Marianelli received numerous recognitions for their work, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award. Their designs sit comfortably alongside the broader canon of Italian Rationalist and post-war modernist design — objects that have aged not into nostalgia, but into continued relevance.
